On 16th September 2023: Cartesian Wealth’s David Neale swum the Serpentine 2-mile course having recently found an enjoyment in open water swimming. In doing so, he also completed the London Classics having run the London marathon and completed Ride London 100, with this making the hat-trick.
With the very generous support of clients, friends and family he also raised £4,500 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
At 12 midday on Saturday afternoon, David plunged into the positively tropical 21 degrees of the Serpentine lake ready to embark on two laps of the 1 mile course.
Though a goggle malfunction right at the start caused a moment of resetting, he took off alongside the 600 other swimmers in his wave.
At the beginning of the Summer, two lengths front crawl of the Edgbaston Priory swimming pool resulted in several rested and recovery days, however, with coaching and a little persistence three months later the classics distance became a viable swim.
An hour and fifteen minutes later, David emerged from the water having completed the course and securing not only the Serpentine Swim medal but also the London Classics medal some 18 years after completing his first London Marathon.
Most importantly, this was an excellent opportunity to raise support and funds for one of Birmingham’s landmark charities, Birmingham Children’s Hospital. In total, generous donations from clients, friends and family raised approximately £2,500 and this was topped up with a further donation of £2,000 from Cartesian Wealth Limited.
We’d like to express our huge gratitude for the kind support and the motivational messages you sent to David before (and during!) his swim.
